The political garden

I have been surprised at just how much I’ve enjoyed forest garden landscaping a local eco-home development. The forest garden plants are always interesting but what has really caught my imagination is the potential for creating a community forest garden with the residents (see my previous Community Forest Garden livestream for more info).

I have been inspired by Helen to take this imagination further into local politics. She’s a new member of the Backyard Forest private Telegram group, who mentioned her work on ecosystems and community plan for her local Community Council in Wales (equivalent to a Town Council or a Parish Council in England).

So, in May 2022 I am seeking election to the local Beulah Community Council on a platform of a local response to the climate and ecological emergencies, and start growing food and habitat wherever possible.

There will be an informal Zoom chat after the livestream at 10.30am, all welcome.

Garden Wild Spreadsheet

Is it possible to have too many spreadsheets? I have brought you the Forest Garden Spreadsheet, listing all the plants in Martin Crawford’s book ‘Creating a Forest Garden’. Then there was Native Species for a Tapestry Lawn, a companion to Lionel Smith’s book Tapestry Lawns. And who can forget the rather complete and delicious Apple Varieties spreadsheet by Chris Day?

Now I bring you the Garden Wild Spreadsheet, listing UK native wild flowers, and slowly being collated as I press ahead with the Garden Wild Flower Gallery project. There’s only 20 plants on there at the moment, I expect to reach around 400 eventually, although it is quite a bit of work!

Support the livestream, become a Patreon

I have a Patreon page patreon.com/backyardforest, so sign up if you want to support the livestream (pretty much every Wednesday since March 2020!) or the development of the forest garden gallery.

There’s also the option to become a Stellar Coaching Patron, where you get 1-to-1 coaching via Zoom, plus free access to my online forest garden course, all for a very reasonable amount which is a lot less than having your garden designed by me!
