Backyard Forest News — CAD livestream!

Wednesday 26th May, 10am BST

Forest garden design with CAD

If you are only ever going to design your own forest garden, I say stick with pencil and A3 5mm grid paper, and possibly an A3 printout of a satellite photo of your land.

However, if you plan on designing more than one forest garden, then learning CAD might be useful for you, particularly if you’re of a technical disposition.

I’ll be showing you how to set up a forest garden design in QCAD. This is Free and Open Source software which works on most computers. I’ll be covering the basics: importing a satellite photo, resizing the image, placing trees and shrubs, creating a straight outline, positioning polytunnels and making paths.

Afterwards, there’s an informal Zoom chat at 10.30am, all are welcome.

Real-time forest garden course in June!

I will be running a real-time, livestreamed course over 3 weeks in June on my normal Wednesday slot. It’s on a pay-what-you-can basis. Anyone can watch the livestream but the Zoom seminar places are limited to six participants. I’ll start taking bookings next week.

All livestreams are on Wednesday at 10am London time, 40 minute Zoom seminar is at 10:30am.

  1. Wed 2nd June — Survey & Plan

  2. Wed 9th June — Design & Canopy

  3. Wed 16th June — Ground Prep & Shrubs

The course material will be similar to my full course The Backyard Forest but with the added bonus of discussing your plans and garden in the Zoom meeting. Please do spread the word 🙂
