Realtime Course

No.3 — Cultivate

On the first three Wednesdays of June, the livestream is forming a complete forest garden course:

  1. Wed 2nd June — Plan

  2. Wed 9th June — Structure

  3. Wed 16th June — Cultivate

The last session is ‘Cultivate’, where I look at how to prepare the ground, what mulches do use, what ground cover plants work best, and a quick look at shrubs

The course is for beginners and is a condensed version of my paid Backyard Forest course (you can access the Backyard Forest slides here).

At 10.30am, there is a Zoom seminar, all welcome, please come along with any questions about your garden and plans.

In the future, I will be running the Realtime Course every month in the evening. It’s an ideal opportunity to discuss what you would like to do in creating your own forest garden.

Last week’s livestream: Realtime Course — 2. Structures

The video is up on my Nature Works YouTube channel. Apologies for the sound not synchronising properly with the video, my laptop is really showing its age!

The colour of summer

Finally the summer has arrived and with it a slew of summer jobs. The mowing and the brush cutting are relentless and I’m continuing to deturf areas and make the narrower, all for the long term aim of reducing the amount of grass and the amount of maintenance.

However, grass is beautiful and I’m keen to learn more about UK native grasses to use in a wildlife ornamental garden. Knoll Gardens nursery has a search filter for UK native ornamental grasses which is very handy.

Once the summer rush is over and we ease in to autumn, I’ll get hold of a copy of A Field Guide to Grasses, Sedges and Rushes by Dominic Price. Should complement Harrap’s Wild Flowers perfectly.
